Weeds, collectively known as “weeds,” are an unwanted plant or animal that results from the over-production of certain types of fungi (also known as “weed-like plants”). Weeds are generally found on lawns, gardens, parks, backyards, and virtually any other area that has not been thoroughly tended to in a careful manner. This definition does not, however, mean that there is any type of weed that can only be found on certain places or that there is some type of weed-related event that causes the weed to grow rapidly. Rather, weeds are an indication of a lack of proper care and maintenance on the part of the owner or gardener of the property where they have grown. In this light, understanding weeds can be instrumental in helping to combat their destructive effects.

Weeds are simply the product of the interaction of certain naturally occurring organisms and certain chemical elements with soil, air, water, and lighting. Some common elements that interact with the soil and/or air in plants are: nitrogen, sulfur, and potassium. Potassium is often called “potassium dioxide” by many people because it resembles the color of fresh-baked brownies. Nitrogen, on the other hand, is often called “nitrogen oxide” because it is used to trigger plant growth. Many weed-related diseases are caused by excess or reduced nitrosalic acid in the soil.

It should be relatively easy to see then, that a plant that contains one or more types of these five basic elements is likely to contain a weed. However, the presence of more than one weed-related element does not necessarily mean that the plant is actually a weed (it could be a natural succession of plants). For example, the cannabis plant contains a significant amount of caffeine, but no other major drug or toxin. This does not necessarily mean that the cannabis plant is illegal; nor does it mean that the weed growing in your yard is necessarily harmless. You should always consult a local government official if you have questions about your local laws regarding marijuana.

Besides the above chemical components, there are some other important non-chemical components that may be present in marijuana and/or cannabis. These include fatty acids, sterols, terpenes, terpinen-4-ol, and anandamides. All of these serve different purposes in the plant’s development, and each serves a unique purpose in the development of each specific weed. Thus, it is not necessarily true that a weed is simply any plant that contains a given weed-related chemical; instead, there are several distinct classes of weed.

The classification of weeds relates to how each class affects the development and spread of each other. Anandamides and terpenes are generally more toxic to the cannabis plant than are the other two classes of chemicals. Sterols, on the other hand, make the cannabis plant more “greener,” meaning it produces fewer photosynthesis-promoting weeds. Terpinen-4-ol is particularly interesting in this regard as it can act as an estrogen, which can affect the behavior of the plant.

Most people associate marijuana with smoking, but technically this isn’t technically true in the least bit. Although the plant does produce some smoke in the form of smoke from burning, it actually only produces a negligible amount of smoke when smoking. Smoking is just a method of ingesting the plant and only a small amount is ingested by people who are actively smoking. In fact, smoking a joint is only moderately similar to smoking a marijuana cigarette.
